Who Is James Bailey?
My name is James Bailey and I am running to be YOUR COUNTY COMMISSIONER.
I retired in 2023 from the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office as the Chief Deputy after 29 years of service to Cabarrus County. I began my time at the Sheriff’s Office working in the Detention Center before being transferred out to Patrol after nearly 3 years. On Patrol, you would to see the best and worst in people. Even when the worst thing was happening, you always had someone in the community checking on you. It made me appreciate all of the great people we have living in Cabarrus County. When Sheriff Shaw was elected in 2018, he appointed me as Chief Deputy where I oversaw the day-to-day operations of the Office. These duties included overseeing the budget, working with County management, working with the County Commissioners, and working with our State/Federal Legislators.
After a year off, I was fortunate to find a job as the Assistant Director of Campus Health, Safety, and Security at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College since June 2024. I was just too young to retire and I felt like I had more to give to our community.
My most important job, however, is being a husband to my wife, Anna, a father to my two kids and their spouses, and “Pawpaw” to my five grandkids. I still have grandkids in the Cabarrus County School System. Without my wife Anna, I would be a shell of the man I am today.
I grew up in the Winecoff area of Concord/Kannapolis off of South Main St. in Kannapolis. We did not have much growing up but it was a great childhood. I would walk to Winecoff Elementary from my house each day and my brothers and I always had great friends to spend time with as kids. After elementary school, I attended Northwest Cabarrus Middle and High Schools. This is where I really became the person that I am today. I had the best teachers and guidance counselors and it is when I really grew to appreciate all that God had given me.
My life experiences have given me the qualifications and insight to represent you on the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners and I hope to have your vote.
